AMPANG JAYA, March 7 — The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) will organise the Jualan Ehsan Rahmah (JER) Mega Aidilfitri programme on March 14 and March 15 to help ease the public’s cost of living ahead of the festive season.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato' Izham Hashim said the subsidised sales programme will be held in eight state constituencies.

“On March 14, the programme will take place from 9am to 1pm in Sijangkang, Batang Kali, Tanjung Sepat, and Port Klang.

“On March 15, it will be held at the same time in Sabak, Sungai Tua, Batu Tiga, and Pandan Indah,” he said during a media conference after the Jelajah Sentuhan Kasih Ramadan programme at Masjid Nurul Hidayah in Kampung Pandan Dalam on Thursday (March 5).

Izham added that PKPS will provide 1,000 chickens at each sales location, up from 400 previously.

“Various other essential goods will also be offered at discounts of between 20 per cent and 30 per cent,” he said.

Meanwhile, the councillor assured that the food supply in Selangor will remain sufficient ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Key supplies like chicken and beef are currently adequate, and no issues are expected.

“The state government is still monitoring supply and price conditions to ensure they remain under control ahead of the festive season. There are also several parties taking the initiative to reduce the prices of goods to help consumers in preparation for the celebrations,” Izham said.

In another development, the state government is also working closely with the Federal government to monitor possible impacts of global uncertainties following conflicts in the Middle East on food prices and supply.

"Although the countries involved (Iran, Israel, and the United States) focus on oil production activities, there may still be an impact on food production processes due to the ongoing conflict.

“We are reviewing the situation with the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry, together with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry. The state government also operates food warehouses that stockpile food supplies, particularly rice, beef, chicken, and fish, as a precaution,” he said.

Izham has also directed related agencies, including the Selangor Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) and Koperasi Warga Hijrah Selangor Berhad (KoHijrah), to increase their food reserve stocks as a preparatory measure to face any possible impact arising from the conflict in the Middle East.
