KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 — The country’s top men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, advanced to the semi finals of the All England Badminton Championships after defeating compatriots Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun in the quarter final held in Birmingham today.
The world No.2 pair recorded a 21-16, 20-22, 21-14 victory in a 61-minute battle, subsequently booking their ticket to the final four of the world’s oldest badminton tournament.
This victory marks the fifth win for Aaron-Wooi Yik over Wei Chong-Kai Wun out of eight total encounters.
In the semi finals, Aaron-Wooi Yik are set to face China’s Chen Bo Yang-Liu Yi, who advanced after defeating the Indonesian pair Muhammad Rian Ardianto-Rahmat Hidayat 21-16, 21-10 in the other quarter final.
This upcoming clash will be the fourth meeting between the two pairs, with Aaron-Wooi Yik holding a 3-1 advantage over the Chinese duo.
A victory in the semi final would propel the Malaysian pair to the All England final, opening the opportunity to add another prestigious achievement to their international careers.
