KUALA SELANGOR, Feb 24 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj graciously attended a fast-breaking event with the people at the Masjid Jamek Sultan Ibrahim today.
His Royal Highness' arrival was accompanied by the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah and Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Ruler presented Hari Raya Aidilfitri contributions amounting to RM264,500 to 529 recipients, comprising 149 hardcore poor, 239 poor, and 141 converts, with each recipient receiving RM500.
Also in attendance were the Health Minister cum Kuala Selangor MP Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Selangor State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin, and the state executive councillor for Islamic affairs and innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah.
Sultan Sharafuddin later broke fast and performed the Maghrib and Isyak obligatory prayers, as well as the Tarawih prayers, with the congregation.
Masjid Jamek Sultan Ibrahim, named after Sultan Ibrahim Ibn Almarhum Raja Lumu, was officially opened by the late Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah on March 6, 1987.
The mosque, located in the centre of Kuala Selangor town, was built on a 42,986-square-foot site and can accommodate up to 2,500 worshippers at a time.
