BUDI95 has benefited nearly 15 mln Malaysians up to yesterday — Amir Hamzah

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 — More than 14.6 million Malaysians have enjoyed subsidised RON95 under the BUDI95 programme as of yesterday, said Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

According to him, BUDI95 processes an average of 3.1 million transactions per day without disruption.

“Through BUDI95, the public receives RON95 at RM1.99 per litre directly at the pump, with no new registration or complicated procedures required.

“The use of MyKad as an eligibility verification mechanism for targeted subsidies has proven effective and practical,” he told the Dewan Rakyat during the Minister’s Question Time today.

He was responding to a follow-up question from Jimmy Puah Wee Tse (Harapan-Tebrau) about fiscal reforms, such as BUDI95 that was launched in October last year, and the government’s plans to replicate this targeting mechanism for other goods, such as cooking oil and sugar.

Amir Hamzah said identity-based verification for citizens also helped reduce leakage to non-citizens.

He added that the government, through the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN), is studying the use of MyKad for the Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation Scheme.

Amir Hamzah said a study is underway to expand the use of the existing MyKad-based ecosystem, including integration with the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) system to strengthen identity verification to monitor the sale of subsidised cooking oil.
