SHAH ALAM, Feb 26 — A total of 230 traders at the Taman Sri Andalas Ramadan bazaar in Klang were inspected during the Selangor-level Ramadan Bazaar Operation yesterday to ensure compliance with food hygiene and safety standards.
The integrated operation involved 60 enforcement officers from the Majlis Bandaraya Diraja Klang (MBDK), the Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Selangor (JKNS) and the Klang District Health Office (PKD).
MBDK said comprehensive inspections were carried out on 136 licensed premises to ensure all traders complied with the Food Act 1983 and related regulations.
“A total of 230 traders were inspected to ensure food preparation was carried out in a clean, safe manner and in accordance with the prescribed standards.
“This enforcement is important to reduce the risk of food poisoning and to protect the health of visitors throughout Ramadan,” it said in a statement.
Following the inspection, MBDK issued five reminder notices for several offences, including failure to display anti-typhoid vaccination certificates under Section 9(1) of the by-laws and non-compliance with full protective clothing requirements under Section 8(5) of the Food Handlers By-Laws (Klang Municipal Council) 2007.
The Klang District Health Office also issued compound notices for hygiene-related offences under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
During the same operation, three food samples were taken for laboratory analysis involving safety parameters such as Salmonella spp, E coli and Total Plate Count (TPC).
Similar operations will be conducted regularly to ensure that hygiene and food safety standards at Ramadan bazaars remain at an optimum level.
