SHAH ALAM, Feb 16 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has urged the people not to be taken in by certain quarters’ attempts at playing up sensitive issues that spark disunity for the sake of narrow interests.
In His Royal Highness’ Chinese New Year address, the Sultan said the unity enjoyed by the country shouldn’t be put at risk with divisive rhetoric.
“I hope the people continue to preserve harmony by making moderation, respect and togetherness a common value.
“Respect other races’ religious and cultural festivals the same way we want ours to be respected,” the Ruler said.
Sultan Sharafuddin said every festival must be a platform to strengthen goodwill among races.
His Royal Highness said Chinese New Year isn’t just tradition, but a symbol of the rich culture and heritage that forms the nation’s identity.
The Sultan said Malaysia was built on racial, religious and cultural diversity, and this strength is what makes the country unique and globally respected.
“This meaningful Chinese New Year, Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin and I want to wish a Gong Xi Fa Cai to the Tionghua community celebrating it in Selangor and throughout Malaysia.
“May this new year bring well-being, prosperity and joy to all,” the Ruler said.
