Tengku Amir Shah declines FAM presidency, focused on Selangor football

SHAH ALAM, Feb 15 — Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah has said he is not interested in filling the vacant president’s post in the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

The Crown Prince said his focus remains on the Football Association of Selangor (FAS), where he intends to devote his full attention and commitment, Astro Awani reported.

“No, I am not interested (in the FAM president’s post). I am only interested in the Selangor team. We have many things we want to achieve.

“We should focus on improving the quality of refereeing. It is not limited to players alone, but involves the entire football ecosystem.

“That is my focus now, centred on Selangor football,” he said when at the launch of a book titled Gemilang: Sejarah Perjalanan Bola Sepak Selangor, in conjunction with the Hari Legasi Merah Kuning celebration in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Previously, members of the FAM Executive Committee resigned en bloc and are awaiting the outcome of an assessment by a monitoring team from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) before convening an election congress.

Following the resignations, three royals were proposed for the presidency.

Besides Tengku Amir Shah, the other two are Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.
