SHAH ALAM, Feb 13 — The zakat fitrah rate for Muslims in the state this year has been set at RM8, RM16, and RM25 per person, in line with the current market price of rice.
Selangor Zakat Board's (LZS) chief executive officer Mohd Khaidzir Shahari said the rates were determined after receiving approval from the State Fatwa Committee and the consent of the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.
They were set based on the current market price of rice and the measurement of one Gantang Baghdad, equivalent to 2.6kg of rice.
“The RM8 rate applies to individuals who consume ordinary rice such as local Super Special Rice and imported white rice.
“For those who consume fragrant rice, glutinous rice, parboiled rice, or brown rice, the rate is set at RM16 per person, while RM25 applies to individuals who consume Basmati rice, Herba Ponni, Japanese or Calrose rice, red rice, and black rice,” he said in a statement.
Khaidzir added that to ensure smooth collection during the Ramadan fasting month, over 2,400 zakat fitrah assistants (PAF) have been appointed to serve at more than 460 mosques and surau across Selangor.
“The public is advised to pay their zakat fitrah only to officially appointed PAF,” he said.
PAF in the districts of Kuala Selangor, Klang, Petaling, Hulu Langat, and Gombak use a fully mobile app system, with payers receiving digital payment slips instantly.
“In Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor, Sepang, and Kuala Langat, payments are still made using zakat fitrah coupon books, but are supported by the same application system,” Khaidzir said.
Zakat fitrah payments may also be made cashlessly via the ZPay app at more than 200 selected premises using FPX, debit or credit cards, e-wallets, and DuitNow QR codes.
Muslims in Selangor are encouraged to pay their zakat fitrah early to ensure it is distributed to eligible asnaf (tithe) recipients before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
