SHAH ALAM, Feb 12 — Selangor residents may now monitor online the progress of flood mitigation projects in their neighbourhoods on the Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) Flood Mitigation Project Dashboard, which was launched today.
The digitalisation initiative was announced by state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim, who also said the platform would allow the public to access transparent information on mitigation projects and flood-related repairs.
He added that the idea for the dashboard was sparked following frequent questions from residents and assemblymen about the status of mitigation projects in their neighbourhoods.
“This idea came about when I saw there were too many questions and applications to see the projects’ progress. Before this, we held meetings, but frequency was limited.
“For transparency, this dashboard is openly available. The public, including people’s representatives, can see for themselves projects’ progress, current statuses, and problems faced on site,” Izham told Media Selangor after launching the dashboard at the State Secretariat Building here today.
Also present was Selangor JPS director Dato’ Mohd Nazri Yasmin.
Izham explained that the user-friendly platform displays over 50 existing flood mitigation projects, including those under the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) and local authorities.
The system, which was internally developed by JPS staff, uses the Geographic Information System (GIS) technology and the ArcGIS Server.
Izham urged other agencies in Selangor to follow in JPS’ footsteps and make infrastructure projects’ progress publicly available.
“I hope other agencies follow this initiative. For example, the public also wants to know the locations where pipes as long as 285km or 300km are being replaced (by Air Selangor) and their status.
“I’m confident this can be expanded to departments that manage many projects, to prove the state government’s transparency in managing infrastructure developments for the people,” Izham added.
