PUTRAJAYA, Feb 12 — A former political secretary to the ex-Melaka chief minister and his wife have been remanded for five days starting today to assist in a corruption probe.
Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah issued the remand order after the couple were arrested at 2 pm yesterday at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here.
They are suspected of soliciting and receiving around RM3 million in bribes in return for facilitating the appointment of a company as the concessionaire for a sea reclamation project in Melaka.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the male suspect, who holds the title Datuk Wira, allegedly committed the offence between February and November 2021.
Authorities also revealed that the bribe money was reportedly used to purchase a condominium unit in the Klang Valley.
