MOE to launch new school curriculum in stages next year

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 — The Education Ministry (MOE) will introduce the new school curriculum in stages starting next year to ensure the education system remains dynamic and meets future needs.

Deputy Minister Wong Kah Woh said the introduction of the new curriculum would start with Year One and Form One students in 2027 before it is extended to Year Two and Form Two in 2028.

“A curriculum is implemented for a set period, and once that period ends, we will introduce a new curriculum for the school.

“Curriculum reviews will be conducted when necessary. For certain subjects, they can take place from time to time,” he said in reply to a supplementary question from Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (MUDA-Muar) about how the ministry implements curriculum reviews in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Earlier, in response to the original question from Mohd Sany Hamzan (Harapan-Hulu Langat), Wong said the ministry integrates national and political education elements into history and civic education to provide students with early exposure to the concept of democracy.

He said efforts to strengthen political literacy were also carried out in collaboration with the Election Academy (APR), providing students with authentic learning experiences on the voting process and their responsibilities as voters.

In addition, Wong said that from this year, MOE would introduce the Madani Generation Character Building Programme, which focuses on four components including strengthening patriotism and nurturing a positive sense of identity in students.

Sany had earlier sought clarification on the government’s policy and initiatives to provide civic and political education to secondary school students to ensure they gain an early understanding of authentic political concepts prior to exposure to partisan politics.
