SHAH ALAM, Feb 6 — A three-year-old child was killed in a fire that involved three houses in Kampung Seri Cheeding, Banting, Kuala Langat, early this morning.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said they were alerted to the incident at 2.44am and immediately deployed 17 personnel, who arrived at the scene within 12 minutes.
“Initial information indicated that a three-year-old child was trapped inside the house, and firefighting and rescue efforts were carried out urgently.
“The fire was brought under control around 3.30am, but later, the child’s body was found badly burned,” he said in a statement today.
Mukhlis added that personnel from the Teluk Panglima Garang, Banting, and Kuala Lumpur International Airport fire and rescue stations assisted in the operations.
Meanwhile, Kuala Langat police chief Supt Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said initial investigations indicate that the fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit at one of the houses.
He said that the victim was a child of the house’s tenant.
“The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation. The Kuala Langat District Police would like to express our highest appreciation to the Fire and Rescue Department and all parties involved in extinguishing the fire and managing the situation,” Akmalrizal said.
