SHAH ALAM, Feb 2 — The Selangor Language Discovery programme, organised by the Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) and offering free foreign language classes, will open for applications on Monday (February 9).
Its coordinator Juliana Es Mohd Munawir said that classes in Mandarin, Arabic, Tamil, French, and Spanish are offered under two categories to facilitate the learning process, with each session running for three months.
“This programme is open to all learners who wish to improve their communication skills. Therefore, we have introduced a children’s category for participants aged seven to 12, and an adult category for those aged 13 and above.
“All learning sessions are conducted fully online. This provides flexibility for participants to study according to the time slots offered,” she told Media Selangor.
Juliana added that each language will be taught by two experienced instructors, with the number to be increased if there is a high volume of applications.
“Online applications will open on February 9. Applicants only need to fill in their personal details and indicate the language they wish to learn.
“Priority will be given to residents of the state. Once successful, we will send confirmation to applicants via email,” she said.
Previously, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government is offering free online foreign-language classes starting this year to strengthen multilingual skills and foster unity among the people.
The approach reflects its confidence that language is a strength that enables Malaysia to compete globally, rather than a source of division.
Last week, he announced a special RM500,000 incentive to implement the programme.
