KUALA NERUS, Feb 1 — The police are investigating allegations that a man sustained injuries after being beaten by police during an Ops Samseng Jalanan in Dungun, Terengganu, recently.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin said an investigation paper has been opened under Section 326 of the Penal Code, stressing that they will not protect any individual found to be involved in the incident.
“We have received a report regarding the incident, and investigations will be carried out. The allegation involves an individual who claims he was beaten.
"If the findings confirm that the allegation is true and involves police personnel, I will not protect any perpetrator, and firm action will be taken,” he said during a media conference after the Terengganu police chief’s monthly assembly today.
Yesterday, a social media post went viral showing several images of a man with injuries, allegedly sustained after he was beaten by police personnel during a traffic enforcement operation.
Khairi added that the police have confirmed the existence of a viral video related to the alleged incident, but the act of beating, as claimed, was not visible in the footage.
“We have instructed the Dungun district police chief to carry out further investigations, including identifying the individuals involved in the case.
“At present, investigations are ongoing, including calling in the complainant to record his statement. If there are witnesses who saw the incident, their information will also be taken into account,” he said.
