AHEAD of Thaipusam, the kavadi is synonymous with a ritual object symbolising vows, devotion, and sacrifice among Hindu devotees.
It involves physical strength, discipline, and spiritual faith.
Its construction begins well before the festival day, requiring meticulous handiwork, from the initial sketches to the assembly of the frame and final decorations.
G. Parumal @ Ramu, 44, said the kavadi-making process starts with preparing an iron frame as the structural base. Peacock feathers, colorful cloth, and lights are added to enhance its uniqueness.
Photographer FIKRI YUSOF captured the kavadi-making process, which combines artistry with elements that each have their own function, symbolising the Thaipusam celebration.
