JAKARTA, Jan 26 — A total of 25 bodies have been recovered as the search and rescue (SAR) operations of the West Bandung landslide in West Java entered its second day yesterday.
National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) disaster data, information, and communication head, Abdul Muhari, said all of the victim’s remains have been handed over to the National Police’s Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team for identification.
“In addition to the fatalities, 23 people were reported to have survived, while 81 others remain missing.
“The casualty figures are expected to change as more victims are located and further identification is carried out by the DVI team,” Abdul Muhari said in a statement on last night.
The landslide triggered by high-intensity rainfall struck Pasir Langu village at around 2.30 am on Saturday, burying several residential areas.
Aside from weather conditions, Abdul Muhari said the terrain at the site had posed significant challenges for rescuers during search operations.
“Based on technical considerations on the ground, the search was temporarily halted and will resume today,” he said.
