SHAH ALAM, Jan 22 — The police have confirmed that they have received three reports regarding allegations of abuse involving an autistic child who is believed to have been confined at a childcare centre in Section 3 on Tuesday (January 20).
Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol said the reports included one lodged by the child's parents.
The police also recorded a statement from rapper and social media influencer Ariz Ramli, also known as Caprice, following the release of videos related to the case.
“The boy is 11 years old and has been sent to the childcare centre for more than four years. This case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001,” he said in a statement.
Ramsay added that the childcare centre had only handed over part of the closed-circuit television recordings to the police. However, they will carry out a seizure to obtain the full recordings for a comprehensive investigation.
On Tuesday, Caprice shared several videos on social media showing the condition of one branch of the childcare centre in Shah Alam, which appeared dirty and in disarray.
The videos also showed an autistic child who was allegedly stripped naked and confined in a store room at the centre.
Following the revelation, the Selangor Social Welfare Department conducted an investigation at the childcare centre's premises yesterday morning and found that it was not registered as an operator under the Childcare Centre Act 1984.
The condition of the premises was also found to be unsatisfactory, unconducive, and failing to meet the stipulated safety requirements, thereby exposing the premises to legal action.
Yesterday, state executive councillor for Women empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari said the incident was not the first of its kind, and that her office had previously received reports and complaints related to the same issue last year.
