SHAH ALAM, Jan 18 — The victims of a fire involving four single-storey terrace houses in Taman Ampang Pecah, Kuala Kubu Baharu, last night have been placed at a temporary relief centre (PPS).
Kuala Kubu Baharu state assemblyman Pang Sock Tao said the current priority is coordinating basic assistance, including helping victims renew important documents in cooperation with relevant departments.
“District Officer Yuhanas Auree Kamaruddin informed us that the PPS was opened at around 11.45pm. At present, we are facilitating the relevant departments to assist victims in recovering important documents that were lost or damaged,” she told Media Selangor.
Pang added that initial checks revealed that most victims had lost clothing and daily necessities, and immediate assistance is therefore being coordinated to meet these basic needs.
“The priority at this stage is clothing and daily necessities, as there are victims who arrived at the PPS without any belongings,” she said.
Emergency assistance, including cash aid, is still under discussion with Hulu Selangor Municipal Council councillors to determine the amount that can be channelled in the initial phase.
“This is because, in the near term, the victims will also need to consider rental accommodation,” Pang said.
Other assistance, including repair works to the houses, is also being considered and will be examined after a comprehensive assessment, before any further announcements are made.
In the incident, four single-storey terrace houses were destroyed, although no casualties were reported.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations division assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received an emergency call at 9.39pm, with fire engines from the Kuala Kubu Baharu Fire and Rescue Station arriving at the scene at 9.57pm.
The flames were brought under control at 10.25pm, and the operation was fully concluded at 1.28am, involving 33 personnel from several fire stations and volunteer fire brigades.
