SHAH ALAM, Jan 17 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin today called on Muslims to remember and appreciate Israk Mikraj.
The Royal couple reminded Muslims that the 27 Rejab event is celebrated with confidence, and expressed belief that those who constantly pray and repent would be under God’s grace.
Their Royal Highnesses also reminded Muslims of the Israk Mikraj journey, as told during the Friday sermon yesterday.
“During the journey, the Prophet was shown various images of doom as a warning against deviating from fulfilling obligations to God and to fellow humans.
“There were groups where their heads were bashed repeatedly because they took prayer obligations lightly. Some were forced to eat thorny, bitter plants because they refused to fulfil their zakat obligations.
“Some chose rotten meat instead of good food because they were adulterous, or drowned in rivers of blood because they practised ‘riba’,” said Sultan Sharafuddin in a Facebook post on the Selangor Royal Office page today.
The Ruler added that the images were not meant to terrify, but to remind Muslims to be obedient to God and honour the rights of other people.
“This event also taught us the concept of ta’abbud, which is the submission and compliance with God’s orders even if they cannot be achieved with mere logic,” His Royal Highness said.

Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said Israk Mikraj is an important foundation in character building and community harmony.
He said Israk and Mikraj remind Muslims of the Prophet Muhammad’s extraordinary journey from Masjidil Haram to Masjidil Aqsa before being lifted to the sky, an event full of insight that occurred around 621 AD.
“It is from this event that the five daily prayers were stipulated as the pillar of a Muslim’s life, not just compulsory worship, but training to shape self-discipline, peace of mind, and strengthen humans’ relationship with the Creator.
“Prayer teaches us about compliance, patience, and spiritual balance, which then reflects noble character in community life,” Amirudin said on Facebook.
He expressed hope that Israk Mikraj continues to nourish faith, strengthen character, and unite the people with mutual respect.
He added that the values from this event should guide the path to the state’s future and a nation that is harmonious, ethical, and based on shared prosperity.
Israk Mikraj is remembered as a grand miracle bestowed upon Prophet Muhammad by God.
Yesterday, the Friday sermon titled “The Great Journey that Strengthens Faith” reminded Muslims that Israk Mikraj isn’t just history, but a source of continued spiritual faith for the people of the Prophet. It said the event is also a lifetime reminder that guides the soul to find strength, peace, and the meaning of life.
