Cops detain JB doctor suspected of murdering wife, four-year-old son

JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 15 — The police have arrested a doctor suspected of killing his wife and a four-year-old son at their residence in Bandar Dato' Onn on December 31 last year.

Johor police chief CP Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the victim, a 36-year-old accountant, was found dead with cuts on her neck, and the boy had bruises on his face, believed to have been caused by being choked at about 8.20am.

Both victims were confirmed dead at the scene and were taken to the Sultan Ismail Hospital for a post-mortem.

"The post-mortem results found that the woman's cause of death was asphyxia-related, while her son was believed to have been smothered," he said in a statement today.

Acting on information and the results of the investigation, they arrested a 33-year-old doctor, the victim's husband, on January 3.

"We also seized a knife with a sheath and a pillow to assist in the investigation. The suspect has been remanded for 13 days from January 4 until tomorrow.

"The results of a check found that the suspect has no previous criminal record, and the initial urine screening test was also negative for drugs," Ab Rahaman said.

The suspect will be charged at the Magistrate's Court tomorrow under Sections 302, 201, and 186 of the Penal Code.

"At the same time, we would like to advise the public not to make any speculation or spread unverified information that could affect the investigation and court proceedings," he said.
