SHAH ALAM, Jan 14 — Foreign language proficiency among border enforcement officers is vital for improving service quality and professionalism at the nation’s primary entry points.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said he conveyed this message during a courtesy visit by the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), led by its director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, earlier today.
"During the meeting, I expressed my full support for immigration officers at AKPS in strengthening their proficiency in foreign languages like Mandarin, Urdu, and others.
“This is in line with the state government’s initiative to enhance service quality and professionalism at the country’s main entry points,” he said in a Facebook post.
AKPS is an agency under the Home Ministry, established through the Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency Act 2024 in October 2024, and is tasked with reinforcing national security and tackling cross-border crime.
Amirudin added that with Selangor hosting two of Malaysia’s main entry points — the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Port Klang — the state government recognises the critical importance of strong border control in ensuring security.
“May the government’s effort help enhance the border control system, improve the quality of services, and ensure the security of the state and nation continues to be safeguarded for the well-being of the people,” he said.
In December last year, the Menteri Besar announced that the state government would offer free online foreign language classes to the people of Selangor beginning this year, covering Arabic, Mandarin, Tamil, French, German, and Spanish.
