SERDANG, Jan 13 — The Transport Ministry (MOT) is conducting investigations into the operator of the bus involved in the fatal three-vehicle crash at Km441.2 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) here on Sunday.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the investigation encompasses compliance aspects with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Inspection and Safety Audit (JISA) and the installation of a speed-limiter device (SLD).
“Our first action (after the crash) is to conduct an audit. The JPJ will conduct an audit and it will be sent to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).
“If they fail the audit, the first action is to suspend their operation. This bus and company will be investigated to see if they complied with the installation of the SLD. If they did not, action will be taken,” he said at a media conference after launching the Madani Siswa Transport Carnival and FIYsiswa 2026 here today, which was also attended by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir.
He also said the government will appoint several companies to conduct a proof of concept on the telematics system for buses.
“We do want to implement telematics… it isn’t just for buses or commercial vehicles,” he said.
The 22-year-old driver of the express bus involved in the crash, which killed one and injured nine, was arrested yesterday by police and remanded for a day.
