KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 — The number of flood victims sheltering at temporary relief centres (PPS) in Sarawak was higher as at 8am, while the situation in Sabah is seemingly recovering.
In SARAWAK, the number of victims increased to 2,831 people (826 families) from 1,172 people (349 families) at 4pm yesterday.
According to the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), the evacuees are accommodated at 39 PPS.
Among the affected areas are Bau, Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Simunjan, Gedong, Serian, Sibu, Mukah and Bintulu.
The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) yesterday issued a continuous rain alert for several areas in Sarawak until today.
In SABAH, the number of flood victims decreased to 462 people (157 families) as at 8am, from 503 people (173 families) yesterday.
The Sabah JPBN secretariat said two centres in Beaufort are still open to shelter residents from 12 villages, while one PPS has been opened in Tawau.
