Selangor e-sports squad targets eight Sukma gold medals

SHAH ALAM, Jan 8 — Selangor’s e-sports contingent to the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2026 is undergoing intensive training ahead of the August tournament, contingent head Simon Lim said.

He said the state squad comprises 40 under-21 athletes who would join every Sukma 2026 e-sports event.

“Our preparations are good. We have players for all categories, contracts have been signed, and trainers have been appointed. They have started training,” Lim told Media Selangor.

The co-founder of Selangor Red Giants (SRG) said the state contingent will compete in several events including eFootball, e-Sim Racing, Street Fighter, eChess, Mobile Legends, and Honor of Kings.

Lim said he is confident that the Selangor e-sports contingent to Sukma 2026 can win up to eight gold medals, which is five more than the target set by the Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS).

Selangor Sukma 2026 will be held from August 15 to 24, followed by Para Sukma from September 5 to 14. The opening and closing ceremonies will be held at the Sepang International Circuit and Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Stadium, respectively.

This Sukma edition involves 474 events in 37 sports, including seven additional sports like cricket, e-sports and silambam. The biennial tournament will be held across Selangor’s nine districts under the jurisdiction of its 12 local councils, with the exception of track cycling, which will be held at the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.

Previously, the state government allocated RM100 million for Sukma preparations and facility upgrades.
