Forecast of significant weather with monsoon retreat until January 11

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 6 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecast significant weather with the monsoon retreat expected to continue until Sunday (January 11).

The situation could bring persistent heavy rain in eastern Peninsular Malaysia and western Sarawak, as well as strong winds and rough seas in the South China Sea during that period.

“In this regard, a Continuous Rain Warning (Alert) has been issued for the states of Terengganu, northern Kelantan and eastern Pahang, effective until January 8, 2026, and for east Johor, effective from January 7 to January 8, 2026.

“Meanwhile, for western Sarawak, effective from January 9 to January 10, 2026, a strong wind and rough sea warning has also been updated effective until January 8, 2026, for the South China Sea,” it said in a statement today.
