JAKARTA, Jan 6 — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia had officially achieved rice self-sufficiency as of December 31, 2025.
He said that rice self-sufficiency was a national strategic target initially set to be achieved within four years; however, it was realised only in one year.
“Thanks to hard work and collaboration among all stakeholders, the target was realised much sooner. In 2025, we did not import any rice at all. A four-year target, we were able to achieve it within one year,” Prabowo said.
He was speaking during the officiation of the national-level Christmas celebration at the Senayan Indoor Tennis arena last night.
The President added that the government is committed to maintaining the sustainability of rice self-sufficiency by strengthening the agricultural sector, improving farmers’ welfare, and leveraging technology and innovation to ensure sustainable national food security.
In the spirit of Christmas celebration, Prabowo also called for national unity and public cooperation to realise the country’s aspirations of becoming an advanced, sovereign and prosperous nation for all its people.
“I always want to invite everyone, regardless of our differences, regardless of whatever sins we may have committed in the past, because we are human, full of shortcomings and mistakes. But now we must work together, we must stay united, we must stand shoulder to shoulder.
“The strong should lift the weak, the weak should come together in cooperation. Compete fairly, but once the contest is over, unite,” he said.
