KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 5 — The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project is a strategic national initiative that is expected to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a regional connectivity and logistics hub in Southeast Asia, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In a Facebook post, he said the project is also a symbol of close cooperation between Malaysia and China.

Earlier today, Anwar received a courtesy call from the China Communications Construction Co. Ltd. (CCCC) delegation, led by its chairman Song Hailiang.

The CCCC is the main contractor responsible for the ECRL's engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.

“The meeting focused on discussions regarding CCCC’s support for government policies in line with the aspirations of the 13th Malaysia Plan, the current progress of the ECRL and the importance of ensuring that the project is completed on schedule and delivers economic spillover benefits to the industries and areas involved.

“I also stressed the importance of thorough preparations by all stakeholders for the ECRL’s operational phase,” he said.
