SHAH ALAM, Jan 6 — The homestay regularisation process has been well received by the public, who agree that registered homestays help ensure the safety and comfort of both tourists and guests.
Ahmad Taufik, 58, said the move would raise safety standards for tourists, as registered and licensed operations must comply with established safety requirements.
“Tourists, especially those from outside the area, prioritise the safety of homestays for their families before making any booking.
“In addition, it makes it easier for the public to search for and obtain detailed information on the list of registered homestays,” he told Media Selangor.

Meanwhile, Mazlan Ismail, 45, believes the regularisation process makes it easier for the public to search websites and make informed assessments based on information, images, and feedback before booking.
“Online bookings allow the public to view homestay information in greater detail, including photo displays, and to assess suitability before making a decision,” he said.
Mazlan added that homestay regularisation helps to ensure guest safety while providing a channel for reference should fraud or operations that do not comply with safety standards occur.

Similarly, Rosminiliana Azemi, 42, described the homestay regularisation initiative as a positive step towards establishing a registered homestay platform that makes it easier for tourists to search for accommodation and plan their spending in a more organised manner.
“I strongly agree because it makes it easier for the public to conduct searches, including via social media, while also helping with advanced budget planning.
“The presence of registered homestays also allows tourists to lodge complaints in the event of fraud or any undesirable incidents,” she said.

Suriyani Said, 42, echoed Rosminiliana's views, saying that the process helps the public identify registered homestays rather than unlicensed accommodation, while also supporting broader promotion.
“Besides ensuring safety from risks such as accidents, registered homestays make it easier for the public to obtain a list of safe accommodation,” said the Kuala Selangor native.

Previously, state executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato' Ng Suee Lim said the state government will begin the homestay regularisation process, with Sabak Bernam as the first location.
The move aims to ensure operators function legally, comply with land-use requirements, and facilitate monitoring in the event of any untoward incidents.
