SHAH ALAM, Jan 4 — State executive councillor for women's development and social welfare Anfaal Saari has strongly condemned the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to generate lewd images, including digitally removing women's clothes and headscarves.

She said that doing so is a disgusting act and believes that it would only lead to the destruction of human values.

"Disgusting. Uncivilised. Inhumane. AI is now being used to strip people of their dignity. This is not freedom of speech, but a form of digital sexual assault," Anfaal said on X (formerly Twitter) yesterday.

Her remarks come after media reports revealing that the use of Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok on X was capable of removing women's clothing or headscarves from photos uploaded without the victim's consent.

In some cases, images of veiled women were also altered to appear without head coverings after users provided specific instructions to the chatbot.

The New Straits Times reported that lawyer Azira Aziz urged victims in Malaysia to report the content to X immediately as a first step.

She also advised victims to document the abuse by compiling screenshots and related links into a PDF, which can be used to file a complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

Azira also reminded the victim to file a police report and attach the relevant documents as supporting material for the investigation.
