SINGAPORE, Dec 31 — Singapore recorded stronger-than-expected economic growth of 4.8 per cent in 2025 despite global headwinds

Xinhua reported Prime Minister Lawrence Wong as saying this in his New Year message for 2026 today.

"Global economic growth turned out to be more resilient than anticipated. As a result, unemployment and inflation remained low, and real incomes have risen across the board," he said, adding that Singapore benefited from an artificial intelligence-related surge in demand for semiconductors and electronics.

In a statement from the Prime Minister's office, Wong also noted that sustaining the pace of growth will be challenging, citing additional obstacles and intensifying inflationary pressures.

As such, he said that the nation must "rethink, reset, and refresh" its economic strategies.
