SHAH ALAM, Dec 29 — Preparations for hosting the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2026 in Selangor have reached 85 per cent, with official contingent registration scheduled to open in January.
State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the level of readiness includes preparations for competition venues, the championship management system, and the provision of key equipment to ensure the biennial sporting event runs smoothly and orderly.
The Game Management System (GMS) will be fully utilised as the official management system for Sukma 2026, covering athlete registration, contingent verification, and competition event coordination.
“Official contingent registration is scheduled to open from January 2 to February 13. Through the GMS, each contingent will be assisted in listing athletes and team officials more systematically, while also facilitating verification.
“Sukma 2026 is expected to feature 474 events, comprising 327 sporting events across various disciplines,” he said at a media conference during the launch of the Selangor Havoc Raya Fest 2026 today.
To ensure comprehensive participation, official roadshows to the states will be carried out starting next week as part of the Sukma hosting tradition.
“This roadshow will involve visits to states in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak, as well as the sending of official invitation letters to Brunei for the participation of its contingent,” Najwan said.
Meanwhile, in terms of infrastructure, several main venues are undergoing major upgrading works, including the aquatic centre and shooting range, while other venues are already prepared for use.
“So far, the main upgrading works are progressing according to schedule. Regarding logistics and technical aspects, around 70 per cent of the competition equipment has been prepared.
“The remaining equipment is still in the procurement process, and discussions with relevant suppliers are ongoing to ensure it meets the technical specifications of the championship,” he said.
Najwan added that the official Sukma 2026 portal will also be launched next month as the primary reference centre for championship information, technical management, registration, and official announcements to all contingents and the public.
