KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 25 — The police arrested an elderly man suspected of being involved in the distribution of contraband cigarettes during Op Taring Alpha 1 in Klang yesterday.
The joint operation was carried out by the General Operations Force's Battalion 4 Semenyih intelligence branch and the Klang Selatan district police headquarters' (IPD) Criminal Investigation Division.
Battalion 4 Commander Supt Amanjit Singh said that during the 2.30pm raid, the team seized 750 cartons of white cigarettes believed to be untaxed, along with a Nissan Almera suspected of being used for distribution.
“The total value of the items seized in the operation is estimated at RM320,000. The 60-year-old man and all seized items were taken to the Klang Selatan IPD for further investigation under the Customs Act 1967,” he said in a statement today.
Amanjit also urged the public to cooperate and report any illegal activities to the police.
