BANGKOK, Dec 20 — Unity, shared purpose and collective belief were the defining forces behind Malaysia’s historic medal haul at the SEA Games Thailand 2025, according to its Chef de Mission (CDM) Nurul Huda Abdullah.
Malaysia concluded the SEA Games Thailand 2025 with a total medal haul of 231 medals — 57 gold, 57 silver and 117 bronze — the highest ever total of medal outside of Kuala Lumpur.
Huda said Malaysia’s success, which saw the nations finish fourth overall, was not achieved by chance but was the result of consistent teamwork and coordinated efforts at every level of the contingent.
“This position was earned through unity, consistency, teamwork, thorough preparation and planning, as well as unwavering commitment from every sport, athlete, official and stakeholder who wore the Jalur Gemilang with pride,” she told a press conference here today on the national contingent’s performance at the Games.
The former national swimming great said unity had been instilled as a core principle even before the 33rd edition of the biennial Games began, with the contingent arriving in Thailand with a clear sense of purpose and responsibility to represent the nation with honour.
Huda said the past two weeks had proven that anything can be achieved when athletes and officials move together with a shared objective.
She added that the success in Thailand belonged not just to those on the ground, but to everyone who contributed behind the scenes and supported the contingent throughout the campaign.
“This success doesn’t just belong to us here. This success belongs to the teams, to the athletes, to the sports, to the management and to the national sports associations.
“This success also belongs to all Malaysians out there, not only here but also at home who have also supported us,” she said.
The 57 gold medals collected at the Games here was also highest in six years, when the country bagged 55 golds at the 2019 edition in the Philippines.

Earlier, the national sepak takraw squad continued to prove its prowess when it won the men's regu gold medal after defeating Vietnam 2-0 in an anticlimactic final at Nakhon Pathom Gymnasium Stadium, about 70km from Bangkok.
The victory ended Malaysia’s men’s regu gold drought since the 2017 Kuala Lumpur edition, while also adding to the nation’s sepak takraw gold tally after the team made history by defeating Thailand to win the men’s team regu event for the first time in 34 years.
The closing ceremony of the SEA Games Thailand 2025 will be held in the Rajamangala National Stadium at 7pm local time today.
