KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 — The Cabinet yesterday decided toll rates will remain across 10 highways next year, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi, who is also Unity Government spokesman, said although the decision would have financial implications, the cost would be borne by the government.
“The details will be explained later by the Works Ministry (KKR),” he said at a weekly media briefing at Angkasapuri Complex here today.
In another development, Fahmi said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had stressed the need to expedite works to complete construction and provide medical equipment for the Sarawak Cancer Centre.
“Yesterday, we read reports that Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg intends to channel a certain amount of funds to facilitate the acquisition of several specialised equipment items for the Sarawak Cancer Centre.
“At the federal government level, the prime minister has requested several matters be followed up by accelerating processes to expedite the completion of the Sarawak Cancer Centre,” he said.
Yesterday, Abang Johari was quoted as saying the Sarawak government will add RM500 million to procure medical equipment for the Sarawak Cancer Centre, bringing the total project financing to RM1.5 billion.
On March 30, 2024, Anwar announced that Putrajaya will manage the construction of the Sarawak Cancer Centre in Samarahan.
Through the project, the Sarawak government became the first state administration to advance funds for a federal project to expedite its implementation.
Meanwhile, on floods, Fahmi advised people to comply with and stay abreast of weather warnings and updates from the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
Fahmi said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reminded the Cabinet yesterday that the fourth surge of the northeast monsoon is expected to bring continued strong winds and heavy rain until March.
