MBPJ moots city’s own Territorial Army

SHAH ALAM, Dec 15 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has proposed forming its own Territorial Army (Askar Wataniah) platoon as a strategic move to strengthen organisational preparedness and civic resilience.

Petaling Jaya Mayor Dato’ Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the initiative reflects the local council’s commitment to enhancing workforce discipline, readiness and security.

“The formation of this platoon will instil values of preparedness and responsibility among MBPJ personnel, while supporting broader national resilience efforts,” he said in a Facebook post after a briefing on the platoon at the MBPJ headquarters.

In his post, he said the proposed platoon is a strategic step to boost patriotism among MBPJ staff while enhancing the city’s readiness to respond to various situations, in line with Malaysia Madani aspirations.

The briefing was delivered by Sungai Buloh camp 502 Territorial Army Regiment deputy commander Mukhriz Jamarudin, who outlined the structure, roles and functions of the proposed platoon, especially in supporting public preparedness and national defence.

Also present were 502 Territorial Army Regiment commander Ridzwan Shoib and MBPJ management services director Mohamad Rosnani Hamid.
