Drain water in Shah Alam flows a bright red

SHAH ALAM, Dec 15 — The Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) acted promptly after receiving reports of a coloured flow in a drain in Section 20, Shah Alam, which was detected flowing into Sungai Klang yesterday afternoon.

According to LUAS, the flow is believed to have originated from the Section 15 industrial area in Shah Alam, although on-site inspections did not identify a clear source or cause.

Heavy rain is reported to have contributed to the rapid downstream movement of the flow.

“Immediate observation downstream before the Klang River detected traces of the coloured flow, but the actual source has yet to be identified,” LUAS said.

All water samples have been collected and sent to the Malaysian Chemistry Department for further analysis.

LUAS officers collect samples of the polluted drain water at Section 15 in Shah Alam on December 14, 2025.

An investigation will also be opened under Section 79 of the LUAS Enactment 1999 for offences related to water pollution, subject to the results of the sample analysis.

In addition, LUAS is coordinating with local authorities and relevant agencies to ensure follow-up actions are taken in accordance with their respective jurisdictions.
