SHAH ALAM, Dec 13 — The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) continues to empower community involvement through its community garden programme to encourage urban sustainability and resident unity, said MPAJ deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari.

“The MPAJ will continue to empower the community garden programme as a platform to bring residents closer, raise awareness on environmental sustainability, and support urban well-being.

“The community garden initiative not only creates a green, productive environment, but builds an active, inclusive and harmonious community network, in line with Ampang Jaya’s aspirations to be a sustainable and prosperous city,” Hasrolnizam said in a Facebook statement of a speech he delivered last night for during a meet-and-greet session, which aimed to strengthen community involvement in green space management.

The meet-and-greet with Hasrolnizam involved people who manage the Pandan Jaya Phase 2 community garden, who play a significant role in making the community garden a success.

The event included a briefing on community garden management by Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) Building Management Unit Operational Development Division senior deputy director Nor Hanizan Sahib.

The session was joined by Hulu Langat district agriculture officer Shahida Salim, who shared important input on urban farming and sustainable land management practices.

According to the MPAJ, support from government agencies and close cooperation between residents are key to the continuous success of community gardens.

“The MPAJ is grateful to all parties involved in making this programme a success,” the local council said.

Such programmes could foster public awareness on the importance of caring for the environment, besides bringing local communities economic and social benefits.

The initiative also supports the MPAJ’s sustainable development aspirations, in line with state and federal green policies.
