KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 — The number of flood victims in Sarawak and Perak continued to decrease this afternoon as conditions improved in several affected areas.
In Sarawak, the number of victims dropped to 152 as of 4pm today after 54 people from 14 families in Kampung Kemunting and Rumah Panjang Roslind were allowed to return home. This follows the closure of the Dewan Suarah Bintulu temporary relief centre (PPS) at 1pm.
The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat reported that Dewan Bulan Sabit Merah Miri currently shelters 33 victims from seven families, while four landslide victims from one family also remain at the PPS.
The PPS at SK Suai Niah continues to house 102 victims from 46 families, while SK Kampung Angus is accommodating 13 people from three families.
The number of flood evacuees also fell in Perak, from 32 families this morning to 111 this afternoon, down from 141 this morning. They are currently housed at two PPS across two districts.
According to the Perak JPBN Secretariat, Hilir Perak recorded 102 victims from 30 families, while Manjung recorded nine victims from two families.
Meanwhile, the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) reported that the water level at Sungai Slim in Slim River remains at the alert level, measuring 25.06 metres compared with the normal level of 23.50 metres.
