KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 — Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar will review a Cabinet proposal on dress code exemptions for front-line services such as healthcare and security facilities.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said that at today’s Cabinet meeting, it was proposed that some front-line services, including police stations and other government premises, be exempt from the Chief Secretary to the Government’s Circular dated December 1, 2020.
“Recently, an issue arose where an individual was reportedly denied entry to file a police report due to a clothing issue, so the chief secretary to the government will review the circular and make some improvements,” Fahmi said at a press conference in Parliament today.
Fahmi, who is also the spokesperson for the Madani Government, said further statements and new circulars will be issued soon, after the review is complete.
“But the prime minister’s view is that on security issues involving police stations, for those who wish to make a report, there should be no circumstances that prevent them from making a police report,” he said.
Yesterday, Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar reportedly said a woman was not allowed to enter a district police headquarters (IPD) on Monday as she violated the dress code set at government premises.
The issue went viral on social media.
The woman, in her early 20s, was at the police station with her mother to file a report as they were involved in a road crash at 5pm.
However, they were not allowed to enter the police station as they were wearing skirts above knee length.
