Selangor revenue tops RM2.7b, balanced budget in sight

SHAH ALAM, Dec 10 — The state government has collected over RM2.7 billion in revenue so far this year, exceeding its initial RM2.3 billion target for 2025.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the excellent performance was the result of coordinated efforts carried out by the entire state administration.

"Alhamdulillah (God be praised), we have surpassed our target of RMRM2.3 billion. When tabling the 2026 Selangor Budget, I did mention that we could reach RM2.7 billion in revenue. Today, we have even exceeded that.

"Let us now wait until December 31 to see if the revenue improves further. What is certain is that it is over RM2.7 billion, but I will not specify the figure as there are still some land-related payments pending.

"What does that mean in terms of revenue? It means we can reduce our deficit. Our budget for this year is RM3 billion, with a projected deficit of RM400 million. But if we record a revenue of RM2.7 billion, that means our deficit will narrow to RM300 million,” he told the media during a mosque and surau aid distribution ceremony at the State Secretariat Building today.

Amirudin added that, based on the state government's spending trend, Selangor could even achieve a balanced budget.

On suggestions to increase cash aid for flood victims, the Menteri Besar said the state government's priority at the moment is to expedite flood mitigation projects to prevent a recurrence of the disaster.

“What needs to be done is to continue, or expedite as soon as possible, flood mitigation projects. What happened in Hulu Langat, for example, was because the Sungai Langat Phase Two flood mitigation project has yet to be completed.

“When I referred to it, it was still at the design stage. Being at the design stage means there is no on-site project yet, and if on-site works had already begun, the impact could have been reduced or better mitigated.

“This should be the state’s main focus, rather than increasing aid contributions to victims,” he said.
