Selangor floods recede, Perak evacuee toll dips

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 — Selangor has recovered from the floods with its last temporary relief centre (PPS) having closed yesterday, while fewer evacuees were recorded in Perak this morning.

In SELANGOR, the state’s final PPS at SRA Pasangan, Kuala Selangor, which housed 38 victims from 12 families, was shut at 3pm yesterday.

Kuala Selangor District Disaster Management Committee chairman Mohd Raiz Radzuan when contacted said all victims from Kampung Asahan were allowed to go home yesterday.

He added that 20 PPS had been opened since November 24, with 29 areas in the district being hit by floods.

In PERAK, the number of flood victims this morning dropped to 411 people from 122 families, who are still sheltering at five centres in three districts, compared with 487 evacuees from 140 families last night.

The Perak State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the PPS at Dewan Rumah Rehat MPTI Bandar Baru in Hilir Perak, which previously housed 45 people from 10 families, was closed at 8.30pm yesterday.

The Bagan Datuk Youth and Sports Complex Hall relief centre has the highest number of evacuees (142 people from 45 families), followed by Manjung (140 people from 40 families at two PPS), and Hilir Perak (129 victims from 37 families at two PPS).

The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a forecast of heavy rain and thunderstorms for the three areas this morning.
