KLANG, Dec 8 — A RM1.28 million food mitigation project is set to resolve flash floods that have plagued over 800 homeowners in Taman Bayu Perdana since 2020.
Pandamaran assemblyman Tony Leong Tuck Chee said the funds are to build two pumphouses and for pipe-jacking, which is a method of building underground piping without having to excavate large surface drains.
“Residents face flash floods nearly every year, twice or even thrice, and last time, there was a famous bank branch on Jalan Batu Unjur, which had to move as the management couldn’t deal with the frequent floods.
“I visited here today to urge contractors to expedite this flood mitigation project. I was made to understand that they would complete it before July,” Leong told Media Selangor.
He was paying a visit to a flooded location along Jalan Batu Unjur 1 here with Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) councillor Kumanan Perumal and MBDK Engineering Department officer Mohd Fazrul Syamel Hasan.

Leong emphasised that repairs in Taman Bayu Perdana were done five years ago, but issues with the contractor kept delaying the project and residents have had to keep facing flash floods.
“Even today, I made this visit after seeing that this project doesn’t seem to be active, even though a new tender was handed over in September. Apparently, they’re still awaiting approval for pipe-jacking.
“Residents need not worry as contractors have assured that they will complete the project by July, maybe earlier,” he said.
Leong also urged the public to report flash flooding to his office to facilitate repairs.
He added that there are at least 19 flash flood hotspots in Pandamaran that are now being monitored.
“(Residents) must inform us because every three months, I bring up this flooding issue at a meeting with all agencies. For your information, this year, nine flood mitigation projects have been approved in my constituency.
“If there are problems, please report them immediately with photographic proof,” Leong said.
