SHAH ALAM, Dec 8 — Tourism Selangor today announced the launch of its evaluation stage for Tourism Selangor Iconic Products 2025, with five new categories.
The state agency in a statement said the categories introduced this year are agrotourism, medical tourism, culture and heritage tourism, gastronomy tourism, and community-based tourism.
It said the initiative, which aims to elevate tourism standards across the state, builds on an evaluation system introduced last year, which saw 20 attractions recognised under the categories of nature, adventure and ecotourism; manmade tourism; sports and recreational tourism; and shopping, recreation and lifestyle tourism.
Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling said the assessment framework is part of a long-term move towards an accreditation and certification programme that will be a benchmark for travellers seeking trusted, quality experiences in the state.
“Through the Selangor Tourism Iconic Products assessment, our attractions have been able to improve according to the guidelines provided, which in turn positions them for recognition as preferred destinations in Selangor.
“We expect around 50 participants this year and we hope this effort will be a catalyst for establishing star-rated attractions in Selangor that offer not only memorable experiences, but also safety, strong infrastructure and hospitality that meets international standards,” said Chua in the statement.
In support of the Visit Selangor Year 2025 campaign, Chua said local councils have contributed to ensuring tourism offerings in their respective administration areas comply with state guidelines.
Chua said that through regular monitoring and on-site evaluation, Tourism Selangor aims to ensure attractions meet standards related to safety, facilities, service delivery and overall visitor experience, while contributing to Selangor’s tourism growth and local economic development.
Participation for the Selangor Tourism Iconic Products 2025 programme is open until December 29.
Among former recipients of the programme are Chocolate Museum, Farm in the City, HL Dragon Fruit Eco Farm, Skyline Luge, and Cloud Bass Paragliding Park.
