Selangor, Perak flood evacuee numbers drop further this morning

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 — The flood situations in Selangor and Perak improved this morning, with fewer evacuees sheltering at temporary relief centres (PPS) compared with last night; but several areas remain on alert.

In SELANGOR, the number of flood evacuees dropped to 38 people from 12 families this morning, compared with 40 people from 13 families last night.

According to the Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) InfoBencana portal, all evacuees are sheltering at the only PPS in Kuala Selangor, SRA Pasangan.

In PERAK, 613 evacuees from 174 families are still housed at seven PPS across three districts, a drop from 680 people from 195 families reported last night.

Hilir Perak continues to record the highest number of victims, with 304 people from 80 families sheltering at four PPS, followed by Manjung (163 evacuees from 47 families at two PPS), and Bagan Datuk (146 people from 47 families at one PPS).

The Perak Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) reported that Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong remains at danger level, having risen to 3.65m from its normal level of 2m. Meanwhile, Sungai Slim in Slim River is at alert level of 25.34m, exceeding its normal level of 23.5m.

The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecast morning and evening storms in Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim, with thunderstorms expected in the afternoon. Meanwhile, Kinta, Kampar and Kuala Kangsar are expected to experience rain in the afternoon and evening.
