SHAH ALAM, Dec 5 — The Menteri Besar has described the passing of Kinabatangan Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin as a great loss to the nation.
Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the late leader had contributed greatly to the country’s political landscape, and that his personality and character would surely be missed by many.
“My condolences to his family and friends. He contributed for a very long time in the Malaysian Parliament, colouring the nation’s political and leadership scene.
“So, it is certainly a great loss to the country. Many will surely miss his demeanour, personality, and presence, which have long brought colour to Malaysia and enhanced the nation's leadership,” he told Media Selangor.
Amirudin said this when met after the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) Back-to-School Cheer Programme at the State Secretariat Building here today.
Bung Moktar, who was also the Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman, passed away at a private hospital in Kota Kinabalu at 1.46 am.
In the recent 17th Sabah State Election, Bung Moktar defended the Lamag state seat with a majority of 153 votes in a six-cornered contest.
In the 10th General Election in November 1999, he won the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat and had served as its MP for six terms.
Born on September 15, 1959, in Sukau, Kinabatangan, he leaves behind his wives, Datin Seri Nor Asidah Alimuddin and Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad, and seven children.
