Education Ministry suspends officers implicated in KL spa raid

SHAH ALAM, Dec 1 — Several officers from the Education Ministry (MOE) who were allegedly involved in immoral activities have been removed from all educational institutions under its purview pending the completion of an internal probe.

It said that immediate action was taken following reports that among those involved were civil servants attached to the ministry.

“The MOE takes the involvement of its officers in such demoralising activities, as reported recently, very seriously.

“No compromises will be made when dealing with such immoral actions,” the MOE said in a statement today, adding that an internal probe is underway.

It also reminded all department heads to increase surveillance and ensure that immoral activities at any level are eradicated.

Previously, it was reported that 17 civil servants, including teachers, were among 208 individuals arrested in a raid at a wellness club in Chow Kit on Friday, suspected of hosting homosexual activities.

However, 171 local individuals who were detained during the raid were released after the court rejected the remand application against them.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said without the victims' confession, investigations under Section 377 (unnatural sex) and Section 372 (prostitution exploitation) of the Penal Code could not proceed.
