PUTRAJAYA, Nov 28 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has condemned the assault on sportswriter and National Press Club (NPC) deputy president Haresh Deol, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
During today's Cabinet meeting, Anwar emphasised that there should never be any violence against journalists, as they are only carrying out their duty.
"We will leave it to the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation,” he told a press conference after the meeting.
On Tuesday (November 25), Haresh was assaulted by two individuals in Bangsar, with one of them recording the attack on a mobile phone.
Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed that a suspect had been arrested and was believed to have targeted the wrong person.
He said that the initial investigations suggest the attack stemmed from a personal motive involving the alleged harassment of the suspect's wife.
