SHAH ALAM, Nov 28 — The Selangor branch of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has raised its preparedness to the maximum level to face any potential disasters, in the threat of Tropical Storm Senyar.

Its public relations officer, Mohd Nazrullah Abdul Aziz, said operations across seven zones involving 38 fire stations are running round the clock, with all personnel and assets fully ready.

“All agencies involved remain alert and clear about their respective roles. Weather monitoring is being carried out continuously to ensure that actions can be coordinated effectively,” he said when contacted.

Yesterday, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecast that Selangor, Perak and parts of Pahang could be affected by Senyar from midnight until Sunday, with maximum wind speeds of up to 50 km/h.

MetMalaysia director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said the tropical storm — occurring for the first time in the Strait of Melacca — was expected to bring more than 200mm of rainfall within a 24-hour period.

Commenting on the forecast, Mohd Nazrullah advised the public, especially those in high-risk areas, to remain vigilant and comply with instructions issued by the authorities for their own safety and that of their families.

Earlier, JBPM Selangor announced that 1,752 personnel, including 461 members of special teams, had been placed on standby in preparation for the Northeast Monsoon, expected to begin from November 2025 to March 2026.

Preparedness efforts have also been reinforced with various land and water assets, including 4x4 vehicles, lorries, fire rescue tender vehicles, and 88 boats of various types, to ensure rescue operations can be deployed swiftly and effectively.
