SHAH ALAM, Nov 27 — The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a tropical storm warning for several peninsular states until Saturday, which brings the threat of continuous heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas.

MetMalaysia director-general Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said this is after the Tropical Storm Senyar was detected north of Sumatra and 102km southwest of Lumut, Perak.

It is moving southeast, having entered the Malacca Strait and heading towards the peninsular west coast with wind speeds of about 24kph.

“This condition has the potential to bring continuous heavy rain, strong winds, and rough seas to Peninsular Malaysia, particularly western and central states, from November 27,” he said in a statement today.

Hisham said Kedah, Penang, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor are at risk.

“MetMalaysia will continue to monitor this tropical storm and issue updates based on current conditions.

“The public is advised to remain vigilant and follow the latest weather information, forecasts, and warnings through MetMalaysia’s website, the myCuaca app, official social media channels, and the 1300-221-638 hotline.”
