SHAH ALAM, Nov 25 — The Selangor government will provide RM500 cash aid to the flood victims who have been temporarily placed at the relief centres (PPS) in the state.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the cash will be disbursed to each of the 750 families recently hit by floods following continuous rain from Sunday.

He said 2,784 flood victims were displaced to 21 PPS in Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Langat, Petaling, and Klang.

“The main factor contributing to the rise in water levels in these areas is rainfall that exceeded expectations, which affected eight states.

“As initial aid for victims who have moved to the PPS, the state government will provide RM500 to each of the 750 families confirmed to be registered in the affected districts,” he said in a statement today.

Amirudin said out of the total number of victims, 221 of them are candidates for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), which starts today.

He added that district offices will provide transport these students for free between the PPS and their schools.

“Yayasan MBI will channel immediate assistance to these students who lost their writing and digital tools due to the floods, to ensure they can continue their examinations more comfortably,” the statement read.

Amirudin said he had also instructed that flood mitigation efforts in several key areas be expedited, which will be monitored and detailed this afternoon by state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim.

“In these challenging times, I pray that God protects Selangor residents, especially those at PPS, and extend my gratitude to task forces across the state and districts who are working tirelessly to provide immediate assistance to the people,” he said.

Yesterday, Amirudin told the Selangor State Legislative Assembly that the government is monitoring floods in several districts, and instructed state executive councillors and relevant agencies to visit and help victims.
